Organizations and tokens
Everything you run on Fly belongs to an organization: its Apps and Machines, its volumes and databases, its private network, and its bill. Every account has a personal organization, and a team creates more and invites its members.
An organization is also a boundary. Its Apps share one private network, and nothing in another organization can reach them.
A token decides the organization
Section titled “A token decides the organization”Alchemy deploys with an API token. An organization token is scoped to one organization, so the token is how you choose where things go: a Service creates its App in the token’s organization, and Fly.App uses it when you leave out orgSlug.
Create an organization token in the dashboard under Account → Access Tokens, or with the Fly CLI:
fly tokens create orgThen store it in a profile:
alchemy profile edit --add FlySee Setup for the details.
One organization per environment
Section titled “One organization per environment”A stage decides what you deploy. The profile’s token decides where. Give production its own organization, so its private network, its members and its bill are separate, and its own profile:
alchemy profile create prodalchemy profile edit --profile prod --add Flyalchemy deploy --stage prod --profile prodMany stages can share a development organization, each with its own Apps.
With CI=true, Alchemy skips the profile and reads FLY_API_TOKEN from the environment. Use a separate token for CI, so you can revoke it without touching yours. See CI.
Values your Services read at run time, like a third-party API key, are covered in Secrets.
